YPA Mentorship Program
Today is our final day of work with our mentors. Our images and essays are due at our meeting tonight. For my submission, I took night photographs of moving water in New Jersey and Connecticut. I am just now trying to select my best photographs for the show, which should be in NYC sometime in January. Check back for more details on that – I am very excited about it.
Young Photographers Alliance (YPA) Mentorship
I am humbled by my selection as a YPA mentee for their 2011 mentorship program. The YPA mentorship program gives mentees the opportunity to work with successful photographers to fine-tune their craft, create images for their portfolios, develop business and marketing skills and explore markets for their work. At the same time, the program will demonstrate the power of photography to build community, national and international awareness and support for an important environmental or social issue.
This year’s theme is Energy is Everything and I am pleased to be mentored by the New York City team, led by photographers Jill Waterman, Stella Kramer and Barbara Bordnick. My fellow mentees on the New York City team are Olivia Gilmore, Annie Breen and Fiona Conrad. Please check back for updates about our progress.
Iceland Photo Shoot June 4, 2011
Because I already had a trip planned to Iceland, I was Michael’s first choice (ha!) to photograph Matthew Patton, a world renowned composer and musician (melodic-imperialism.com/) who is currently in Iceland –because he loves it there, calling it “the greatest place on the planet” and because he is collaborating with the Icelandic musical group Sigur Ros (http://sigur-ros.co.uk ). My job is to get photographs and videos of Matthew (and if possible Sigur Ros)to support an upcoming feature in The Imagista Magazine in locations that will highlight his energy, passion and talent against the incredible backdrop of the Icelandic vista.
I am so excited about this project. Iceland is amazing. Breathtaking. Awesome. And every other overused superlative.
Matthew and I had a really tough time getting together. I had no phone service – and he had no phone. We kept missing each other at the hotel, but finally we met up. We had a great walking tour and I got some great images of him. Am keeping my fingers crossed that Imagista will use them in an upcoming issue.
Also met and photographed Kristin Valtysdottir, the former lead singer from the group Mum. She and Matthew are collaborating on a new project. She sang a bit for us – and it was awesome.
